Naru Narusegawa is a female student, 17 at the start of the story, resident at the Hinata Inn, who initially has an unforgiving and violent disposition towards Keitaro. This seems to stem from their initial encounter, where she mistook him for Kitsune and was embarrassingly forward as a result. This happened because she is very short sighted, and was not wearing glasses at the time. Though she is often the victim of Keitaro's clumsiness, just as often her insensitivity is the cause of problems. However, she gradually warms to Keitaro, and is forgiving when she discovers he isn't actually a Tokyo University student. Despite initial reluctance, she agrees to coach him and help him out.
She herself is an exceptional student, the "top in the nation" in her mock exams. Because of this she was expected to pass her entrance exams for Tokyo University easily.
It soon becomes apparent that she is quite possibly Keitaro's "promise girl", though she denies the possibility when she is made aware of it, saying that she would only have been two at the time of the promise. It is however revealed in book 14 that she is indeed Keitaro's promised girl.
Despite the occasional rocky patch, her relationship with Keitaro continues to develop, but it is a long time before she is willing to acknowledge the fact. Even when they are effectively "an item" she is still likely to send him skyward with a "Naru Punch".
